National Theatre Wales Summer Camp 2015
About the residency
A two week residency with artists, performers, writers, directors and designers in a secret location which was revealed to the collective closer to the time.
2015 took the group to Llandinam, North Wales. To the land of Victorian Entrepreneur, David Davies in his home, 'Broneiron House.'
About the performance
As part of a 'Room Response' in the vast Broneiron manor, I created a multimedia performance in the laundry room, which was the suite of preparation for the lavish show-home.
I designed the installation around the second wife of David Davies, Henrietta, bringing their flirtatious relationship into modern day, as she prepared for their first date.
Projected films, Tinder profiles, live actions ironing clothes and drying of hair immersed the roaming audience into the scene as and when they arrived, each experiencing something different. Asking the roaming audience for opinions on what to wear and what they thought of David Davies was lined with pieces of text dotted around the set, text that narrated the internal thoughts of Henrietta.
He’s asked me. I am going on a date. Davies the Ocean. Asked me. ON A DATE. Top Sawyer. The most remarkable hunk in Llan. This Wednesday. Cannot effin’ wait. So scared. What shall I wear?"
This is something beyond my typical performances, stepping into a role play character and parodying the self indulgence of reality television shows.
